Ardapony Squared LLC collaborates between two award-winning artisans Samuel Mayo formerly of Ardapony, and Jody Mills, formerly of Inspirations By Jody. The collaboration started in late 2019, then formalized on January 1, 2020. Under the guidance of Sam and his uniquely creative mind, designing jewelry together is what is setting Ardapony Squared jewelry apart from work by other jewelry artisans. Their work was showcased in the January, February, and March issues of British Vogue in 2020; and, in March of 2021, 12 models walked the runway wearing Ardapony Squared designs at TGL On Central Fashion and Art Show 2021 in Phoenix Arizona.
The Ardapony logo or symbol has a very definitive meaning. The A in the center represents the mountain within each of us. We can live our lives enjoying the green pastures at the base of the mountain and live happily. But, it’s when we choose to climb the mountain within that we meet our inner sun. The circle in the logo represents the sun on top of the mountain, and the spiral represents the universe. “Ardapony” is stillness and movement and all the majestic colors in between. It’s the creative soul looking for a home. The Ardapony logo evolved with a square symbolizing two right angles, each with its own strengths, to create a foundation for growth.
After working for many years with the international renowned wire-wrapping master, Dallas Lovett, I was offered a sales position with Barney’s of NY in Scottsdale, AZ’s fine jewelry department. Within two years, on January 3, 2013, I stepped out on my own and began designing unique, one-of-a-kind pieces of jewelry with a tendency toward the Brutalism style. My designs were widely accepted, and in 2017 I won 2nd place I the Arizona State Fair’s Milk Weeds special contest for my sterling silver necklace entitled Spirits and Souls. I’ve become known as “the jeweler who buries jewelry”, and have buried jewelry as an offering to nature’s inspiration in Florence, Alabama to Granite Falls north of Seattle, WA and on and around the mountains all over the Phoenix Greater Metropolitan area. While looking for employment In 2017, I came across Cosanti in Paradise Valley. I was new to Paolo Soleri and, to say the least, my world changed! I am so grateful for my time making Cause Bells for Cosanti. My current focus with Ardapony Squared is the oversight of our designs and the development of our collections.
I began designing and handcrafting jewelry under the name Inspirations By Jody in 2009 while working as a Technology Manager in Phoenix, AZ. In 2012 I left my corporate job and began focusing more on my craft, doing art shows and festivals around Arizona and TN; and soon found myself learning the art of silver smithing. One of my silver link bracelets won Best of Show at the 2016 Mountain Makins Art Festival in Morristown TN, and several of my pieces made the runway in the Labelhorde Fashion Show in Tempe, AZ in 2017. I’m honored to be primarily responsible for the financial and business development of Ardapony Squared, along with crafting jewelry alongside the very talented Sam Mayo.
